Hello

I have a question about what RAM I should pair with a Ryzen CPU. I would go for a single 8 GB stick since the second one will probably follow soon.

But the real question is what stick I should buy. Of course I want faster RAM for Ryzen. The system will probably feature an ASUS Prime B350-Plus paired with an R5 1500X or 1600.

I looked at an single 8 GB stick of G.Skill Aegis 3000 MHz.

Will there be a problem sice this RAM stick isn't on the QVL?

Will this stick work at 3000 MHz or will it be slower?

Or should I just get a 2133 MHz stick and overclock it?

Is there a big difference between singe and dual channel RAM with Ryzen?

By the way: Feel free to leave some motherboard/RAM recommendations.

Thanks

check the QVL from the MB manufacture for best compatibility.

BIOS updates are getting better on RAM compatibility. It'll work, just maybe not at the guaranteed OC.

I would recommend corsair vengeance lpx ram, that has been most stable for me. I tried both that and the crucial ballistics and the corsair ram was more stable. I also didn't have much luck with overclocking ram past the rated speed on my asus x370 prime with the 1700x. I expect things to get better as they update the bios more.

Thanks for your reply. Is it possible to overclock RAM with a B350 motherboard?

If you want fast RAM with Ryzen, you're going to want a kit with Samsung B-die, which I don't believe is sold in single stick packs by anyone. The Aegis is Hynix, which will probably get to 2666 or 2933 but will likely not be completely stable above that. Realistically, yes, almost any set of DDR4 will OC to 2666 no problem.

Since I get a feeling you're trying to save money here, I'd recommend a cheap 16GB kit. It's not much more expensive than 8GB, and odds are that this one's Samsung IC's will give you similar OC headroom to the G.Skill's Hynix ones despite a lower rating on paper:

Look for Samsung B-die if you really want very good memory that can clock decently with Ryzen, it's a very premium memory though, and not that many kits use it, so good luck hunting.

Yours faithfully
