Generally if you are piecing your own loop together, you are going to use the standard fittings g1/4 thread. From there, you need to determine what the ID, or Inner Diameter, and OD, Outer Diameter, is that you want. So say for instance you want 1/2 ID and 5/8 OD, then you would buy fittings that would accommodate this size.  Thus you would buy the tubing size that would fit these.

Does the ID and OD depend on anything?

It can help or hurt you at the same time. You dont want a small ID like 1/4" or 6.5mm as that would be to restrictive and likely cause thermal issues. Then again, you dont want to large either as it can adversely affect flow rate and head pressure. Generally you want either 3/8 (10mm) or 1/2 (13mm) for the ID is the sweet spot.

That is good, but I would recommend more of a compression fitting, like this: https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-acf-fitting-13-19mm-blue

Can hardline tubing be used? It only says soft tubing.

Barb fittings are specific to soft tubing only. There are other fittings needed for hardline if you are interested.

This is what you would need if you wanted to do hardline tubing. https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-hdc-fitting-12mm-g1-4-blue

No, you still have an ID and an OD that you need to follow.

What is 12 ID and 16 OD in inches?

That would be 7/16" and 5/8".

I would recommend to get fittings and tubing from the same manufacturer though if you're planning to do hardtubing. Else there is a chance that the tubing wouldn't fit perfectly. (Especially when mixing mm based fitting with inch based tubing or the other way around).

Also with hardtubing, the OD is what matters most.

These: https://www.ekwb.com/shop/fittings/compression-hdc/for-12mm-7-16-od-tubing

Will go with these: https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-hd-petg-tube-10-12mm-500mm-2pcs

And these: https://www.ekwb.com/shop/fittings/compression-hdc/for-16mm-5-8-od-tubing

Will go with these: https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-hd-petg-tube-12-16mm-500mm-2pcs

For softtubing with barb fittings the ID is important. The OD then would only determine the wall thickness of the tubing. Thicker walled tubing is more sturdy and won't kink easily when bend. (For example.the 10/16mm (3/8'' - 5/8'') tubing)

For softtubing with compression fittings both ID and OD are important. The ID is for the barb part and the OD for the compression ring. So for 10/16mm (3/8'' - 5/8'') tubing you could use these: https://www.ekwb.com/shop/fittings/compression-fittings/for-10-16mm-3-8-5-8-tubing

The choice of tubing type and size is up to you. What you think looks best in your 900D.

I use 10/12mm acrylic tubing in a Thermaltake Core X71 and I think it looks great.. So yeah, I would recommend that. Or for softttubing I would recommend 10/16mm (3/8'' - 5/8'') tubing.

Hardline tubing is metric exact, with only a few brands, being Primochilll and Monsoon being inch exact. You must get both fittings and tubing that are both metric or inch exact, they are not in any way interchangeable between each other.

There is one exception with one having extra thick orings but everything else must be both inch and metric exact measurements.

need to know your pump gpm(or equivalent) and tube inside diameter size

do math for finding area of a circle multiply this area number by length of tube get your volume

look up 1 gallon water cubic area number online use this with your volume number to see if

a. your going pump to fast a flow for cooler be effective or not effective enough

b. your pump can handle the volume

also note fitting sizes that reduce/enlarge insider diameter effect the gpm flow and pump pressure
