Why Future Apps Will be Streamed, Not Installed

marty_1986

Yep, I made the same prediction a couple of months ago.

Honestly, at this point, it's not even a prediction. It's inevitable. In 20 or so more, everything will be streamed. When this becomes a reality, piracy will die and high-end CPUs/graphics cards will die (because you're streaming - not rendering).

People will run their own GRIDs.. Somehow I hope. Or nvidia will need to set up shop in every country in the world that want to play their games.

So what happens if you are abroad, and can't use the mobile internet because it costs a bazillion dollars per megabyte? You can't use your apps?

Two words - Hell no. I'd rather have an app, or software on a system (handheld, phone, console, etc) then have to constantly use the internet to be able to use the damn thing.

+1

I'm really getting sick of the whole cloud thing. It needs to die. Now.

If all apps become cloud based or streamed then at what point do we know whether the app we are using is totally safe? IF the processing is being done somewhere else on the web then how do we know our data is staying purely within the confines of our pc and the processing server, and not being transmitted to a third party?

EDIT: at least if we have the software in it's entirety on our pc we can observe exactly how it operates and watch our network to see what it is doing and what information it is sending where.  But we can't do that if we have no access to the app host server.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.
