I have Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and I've been having some problems recently, the most recent 1 was that I was installing Avast antivirus and in order to install it I got a message saying to turn Base Filtering Engine on and I went into Services on msconfig and searched for it to turn it on but it wasn't there. I looked into this and based on what I found the best thing would to be to do a repair install or clean install of windows. I want to refrain from doing this as much as possible because I have a ton of files/programs that I really don't want to redownload unless I have to and it will probably be some time before I get my NAS up and running to backup all my files and everything.

I've done sfc / scannow and got this: https://gyazo.com/6a5cab76f92ede9424f1a0b68a68f93a and I'm pretty much lost from here.

I have been considering upgrading to Windows 10 recently anyways, could doing that fix my problems? If I do so will that effect any of my files/programs and settings? I never really upgraded to another OS before

Do not upgrade, that will likely cause even more problems than you already have.

Always do a clean install when switching OSes.

You should be doing a clean install at least every few years if you want to have no issues.

It sounds to me like you're very unorganized and haven't done a clean install in many years.

Maybe take some time to get your stuff organized and backed up before doing a full wipe and clean install.

Yeah I suppose you're right, looks like I got a lot of work to do. Just 1 more question, will a clean install wipe all of my hard drives? Or just the boot drive?

You should unplug all other drives while clean installing.

When you get to the partitions screen, delete everything there and select "unallocated space" and then install.

Everything will get wiped properly.
