PC BSOD's at high workloads.

Hi,

 

Been having problems with a self-built rig for about a year now so thought I would come back to an extremely helpful community for any help you may have.

 

When my PC ran Win7, it would hang on bootup about 9/10 boots, if it made it through the log-on process, it would BSOD and shut itself down at the first command entered. I took the PC to a shop, who said the problem was with my installation of my OS, upgraded me to Win10 and said it should work from here. Whilst the PC does not hang on bootup anymore, every couple hours of use the PC BSOD's, usually with error code 'CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT'. 

I have checked in the BIOS, and I am pretty sure that my CPU/GPU clocks are at stock, and I am not running XMP timings on my 2133Mhz RAM. I have a feeling that my H100i may be failing, but hopefully by looking at the attatched PERFMON and dump files, you will be able to find what's causing these issues...

go into the bios, on the exit screen it should have an option to load optimized defaults, try that and see if it works, also you can take a long screwdriver and touch the tip to the h100i cooler block where the pump is and stick your ear on the handle and you should be able to hear the pump... or not if it's dead

ok, have loaded optimized defaults, but b/c i don't know what exactly triggers a crash ill have to wait a few days I think to see if it crashes again under normal workloads. did as you said with the pump, seems to be still working. I have an AIDA64 report if that would be helpful?

I'm too stupid for it to tell me anything lol. You can try ROG realbench to stress the cpu hard for a few hours or just use your computer like normal for a while, but typically when clock_watchdog triggers it's the obvious stuff you mentioned or some little easily overlooked setting that will haunt you until you reset it

OK, was stable for a while, but booted PC today, tried running chrome w/ loads of tabs as soon as it logged on and I got BSOD and clock_watchdog....

How much RAM do you have? Chrome should mainly be stressing your RAM, though your CPU does have to keep up with all those tabs.

In fact, can we have a full spec list? It helps to know what you have so we can identify any weak points.

Have you tried removing and reseating all your drives, GPU, fans, RAM, etc? I don't think you need to reseat/reapply thermal paste on your CPU as it isn't having any temperature spikes. But just unplugging everything will let you make sure that nothing has been knocked out of place or something like that. If that doesn't work, you could try backing up all your data, removing all your drives except your boot drive (so you don't mess up any of your other drives), and do a clean install of win10, then pull all your stuff back in.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner, got sucked into playing with other peoples computer problems and a new gpu. Yeah try pulling the memory, check the gold pins/traces where it slots in, if any are dirty use a pencil eraser and gently clean them, then reinsert them and pull your 24 pin and 4/8 pin power wires on your mobo and reinsert those. If that doesn't help the only other thing I can think of is that maybe you have some bent pins or something is wrong with either the cpu or mobo.

Had one or two BSOD's when trying to do lots of things at once. Also a common issue I have is USB ports suddenly cutting out for periods? Means my WiFi adaptor won't work without reinsertion.
