Hello everybody, my old crappy laptop's hdd is almost dead, I'm thinking about getting a 250Gb ssd, but my laptop has only a SATA2 port, and my question is this, am I gonna see any performance difference? Is it worth to go with and ssd or I should go with a bigger hdd?

i am doing the same thing , i am getting a (250gb) samsung 850 evo and swapping it out with my mechanical. but only because i am doing my build later in the year and it was on sale, but really all you are gonna get is some faster boot times and applications will open a bit faster, but yeah sata 2 limit is about 375 mb/s which is still bounds away from a laptop mechanical drive, and to be fair a cheap one is great to reduce the bottleneck, I was really pulled between a 250 and 500 version as well, but i went with 250, because i have an external 2tb, and my os and apps only take up about 150 gbs, but that was just to save some cost, but if you got the cash , then go ahead for larger size

the SSD no matter what still has more IOPS than a traditional mechanical HDD. Even if it was in a SATA gen 2 port, it will still perform around 10 times faster than a traditional mechanical hard disk.

so i can buy the slowest ssd on the market and still have better performance over hdd?

Definitely get one. I'd even say to get a good, fast one, so if you get/upgrade/santasurprisesyou with a new laptop, you just switch over the SSD and you're away laughing!
