PC Idel Temps

Go to solution Solved by genexis_x,

Replace thermal paste

At first the Problem:

my CPU´s idle temp. is grown by 10-15 °C

In December it was 18-25 °C

Now in April it is 29-35 °C

Not too long ago it wasn´t that "hot" in idle

I looked into my PC, there wasn´t too much dust, and i cleaned it but no change in the temps

My PC:
Intel Core i5 6600K (no OC -> 3.5 GHz)

CPU cooler: Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3 air cooler (180W TDP, fan at 700rpm)

GPU: MSI Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 (idle temp 32°C with changed Fan to constant 30% Fan speed in idle ~700rpm)

Case:

Fractal Design Define R5:

the 2 Included Fans in the Front(~ 400rpm)

3x Extra Fans: corsair SP 140

1 of them in the Back (~600rpm)

2 of them in the Top-Back- area (~500rpm)

Is this usual with this setup at this time, or what can I do to improve cooling performance ?

What about your room temperature? In December you might had lower room temps.

But not 15°C difference I hope lol

unfortunately i dont know the temps of my room but i guess its ~23 now and in December it was ~20 I guess

Mid 30s is normal at idle if your ambient temperatures are 23.

If your ambient temperature in December was 20, then there is no way your idle temperatures were that low. In order to get room temperature on an air cooler your computer would have to be off.

Idle temps are only good for telling if your cooler is properly mounted or not. And even then you will notice it when temps hit 50C at idle. Another thing with idle is that CPU is only true idle in BIOS and right on startup. After that there's always some 5-10% load because of all background processes. Just small bump of 10% can bump temps with 5-10C.
