I would go with a dual core pentium g4560. Or if used the i5 2500K

If you pick up the 2500K remember to get a Z68 or Z77 motherboard for overclocking!

A better comparison would be between the i5 3330 and a FX-8xxx. Those are generally in the $100 range, so you may want to look into that. (Note FX-8xxx processors are 8 cores.)

ya don't really need the 8 cores just gonna be HTPC for wife and kid

If it's an HTPC, you probably only need a Pentium or a different dual-core processor.

Nah, only the FX series chip we recommended and that i5 2500K. But both run a lot hotter.

Yeah you can but I would just use iGPU to save power
