So i recently bought a used desktop off eBay for a pretty fair price because i saw the potential to make it into a budget gaming desktop. Its an Acer Veriton (full specs here https://www.cnet.com/products/acer-veriton-x4630g-i5443x-core-i5-4430-3-ghz-4-gb-500-gb/specs/ ). It has a free pcie 16X gen 3 slot that i want to populate with a decent cheap card like an RX 460 or gtx 1050, the issue is both cards ask for a 400W psu but the current psu is only 220W. the rx 460 I'm looking at ( http://www.microcenter.com/product/469260/Radeon_RX_460_Overclocked_2GB_GDDR5_Video_Card ) peaks at only 84 watts usage, and the i5 included uses 84 watts, so combined its only 170 watts out of 220. will this rx 460 work or should i look around for another solution? The other big limit is the case is fairly small so i may have to move the components out and into a new case to fit a full size card. Any helpful information on this would be very appreciated.

Yes, CPU+GPU is less than enough, but you also have a motherboard, ram, and storage to worry about which will probably put it over the power supply's limits :/.

I'd suggest just upgrading the psu, probably to something like a Seasonic S12ii or m12ii.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

It should work since that card is PCI-E powered, but a PSU upgrade wouldn't hurt. EVGA B-Stock has good deals from time to time.

Just replace that PSU.

Good on ya for upgrading a stock PC. I've done it twice and they're horrendous to work in.

To update the PSU, you'll have to find one that fits what is probably a nonstandard form factor. That PC, IIRC, is a thin chassis that won't accept a standard size.

If it is a Flex ATX mount, there's a decent Seasonic 300W of the that would let you do something low profile like a 460 or 1050.

Also, that GPU won't fit if it's the form factor I think it is.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
