Hi guys.

I have an i7 950 (as you can see in my bio :P ). I'm thinking of upgrading my GPU to something like an RX470/480 and wondering would the CPU bottleneck the GPU badly? If so, would it be worth it to save up some more cash and get something like a Pentium g4560 (though I would need new ram and a mobo too in that case...)

Well, the rx480 is as far as I would go with the i7 950, I don't think you should upgrade CPU though, the g4560 will provide almost the same performance, I would wait for either Coffee Lake or Canon Lake to arrive, even if you do buy the rx480.

On cpu intensive games it will but if its already above 60fps then u dont need to worry about it.

Dont buy a new set of cpu if u are on a budget buy the 470.

Hmm ok thanks. Any reasons as to why I should get a 470? (and 4 or 8gb?).

Depends on your resolution, if you are staying with 1080p 4gb is all you need, and honestly I would go rx480 because the price gap is not that high and you do get better performance, it'll max out the usage of your CPU but won't bottleneck enough to be an issue.

4Gb is starting to be a bottleneck nowadays game uses more than 4Gb if u max out the settings its only a matter of time until it becomes say not enough.

If the OP wants to buy the 8GB version then the price gap is close to 480 8Gb. at least in here.

I'm thinking of getting the 480 8gb, just for the peace of mind that I can run practically all games (at varying settings), for at least a few years from now. And yeah, I'm gonna stick with 1080p.

Wait for RX 500 and see if the price per performance ratio is good enough.

But if u cant wait u can just buy 480 overclock it to achieve 500 ish like performance

ahh. To be honest, I didn't even know about that. Since I'm anyways not gonna upgrade for 2-3 months, looks like imma wait.

your board can support an x5650 which are cheap from server sellers on ebay. you should be able to oc and get better performance than i7 950 with 2 more cores. i went from an i7 950 to an x5675. good buy

Ah, thanks, I've read a bit about those Xeon CPUs before so I'll look into that more.
