Hey guys,

Recently in my city my ISP just launched the new internet packages with 1000mbps max download speeds. I'm planning to upgrade the internet connection to that speed and I was wondering if the ASUS RT-N66U would be capable of those speeds? I heard that Linus uses this router in his home and I would like to know if it would be capable of 1000mbps connection speeds? I've already read the spec sheets of the router but sometimes some of them are just for marketing purposes.

Please help. Thanks in advanced.

No, it´s not capable of those speeds. It is capable of 450mbps on the 2,4 Ghz band and the same on the 5 Ghz band. Therefore marketing decided to say that it could do 900mbps ;)

If you want something which is capable of operating at those speeds (1300mbps on 5 Ghz and 600 on 2.4 Ghz) this is the way to go :)

Have fun :)

Either go wired or if you must go wireless go for the RT-AC66 or 68 BUT you have to also invest on an AC PCIe Card.

Asus has the PCI-AC 66 or 68 as well.

And for the love off all things tech please, please! PLEASE! don't buy a USB AC dongle... unless its a USB 3 based device. (USB 2 only has the capacity to support up to 450mbps.)

Although the ASUS N66u may be an awesome and fast router, it won't be able to support those speeds.

If you want a router that can theoretically support those speeds, I would go for the ASUS AC68u.

Please note that it won't nessecarily give you those speeds, it's an ideal situation speed.

You will also require a good quality 802.11ac NIC. I would suggest ASUS 's for that too.

To be quite honest, if you are trying to achieve speeds like that, you may just have to go wired.
