Depends on the game obviously, e-sports sure, recent triple AAA nah...

lets be honest here. the gtx 970 isn't doing 144fps in AAA titles without some tinkering in which case the r7 1700 may not even be an issue depending on what settings are changed.

No, they have a lower CL latency and higher binned memory chips ;)

bios issues makes it a hit and miss, 2933mhz is almost guaranteed though.

my system would beg to differ. haven't been able to run it over 2400mhz for some bizarre reason. even tried entering all the timings manually and playing around with different timings. i have the corsair vengeance lpx 3000mhz c15 2*8gb memory.

although to clarify there are others with the same ram and motherboard who have gotten 2666mhz just fine.

very unlucky. the person i was talking to the had the same motherboard and ram was able to get 2666mhz on the original bios. tbh i never tried going over 2400mhz on the original bios but i just assumed the newer one wouldn't be worse for memory than the older one and the newer one wont work on 2666mhz no matter what i have tried.

tbh though i usually get excellent performance in games and got the r7 1700 for productivity anyways so it sucks that i cant get that slightly better performance but it seems like I'm hitting a gpu bottleneck before a cpu bottleneck even with a gtx 1070. although if i turned the settings off of ultra maybe this wouldn't be the case but until i get a 144hz monitor i wont be getting anything out of having fps higher than 60 anyways. then again even if i got faster fps it does nothing for me with my current monitor.

msi tomahawk. but like i said earlier i think I'm just unlucky because others have had better success getting higher memory speed on my motherboard even with the same memory and cpu. alot of people were saying it is hard to get higher memory without an overclock though.
