So I have been having trouble running Minecraft on my laptop. My laptop has the i7-2600HQ, 960m, and 8gb of RAM. I am currently only getting around 20fps and I know that my system should be able to put out more than that. Its the same fps wether I use or don't use mods, optifine, and I have tried diffrent versions of java, minecraft, and have tried tweaking RAM values. I have heard that the 960m can be a problem with Minecraft. Has anyone else heard this or knows a fix for this?

it's probably the CPU, check to make sure it's not overheating or anything, then consider the GPU to make sure it's not overheating, but Minecraft is pretty damning on CPU's, also make sure the memory is not at 100% usage, by default Minecraft can only use 1GB even though sometimes it can be beneficial to have more

Yours faithfully

The fix: right click desktop, click nvidia control panel, Under manager 3d graphics, find Minecraft or add it if it is not there. Then make sure it using High-performance Nvidia Processor not Integrated Graphics

It boosted me up to 30-40fps, but I thought it would be more tbh since its just Minecraft.

Minecraft relies heavily on your CPU not your GPU. Your CPU is getting quite old at this point. Not sure if the CPU you specified is actually a CPU as I can't find it anywhere, but if it is a 2 gen i7 you are talking a 2011 CPU.

On my laptop with a 6700hq and 960m I get about 100-250FPS in singleplayer and usually somewhere above 60 on a server.

I know, I don't have my laptop right now though. I may acutally have a 6700HQ though because I did pay about $1000 for the dell and it was touchscreen

That would make more sense. Just one last thing. When playing Minecraft make sure you don't have your settings too high, keep your settings fancy or fast and 8-12 view distance and you should get decent performance.

Yeah thats what I have it set too, I also have turned on things like fast math with optifine. I'm going to see if I can play vanillia servers with the FastCraft mod and see if I get any kind of fps boost.
