Hi guys,

Bear with me if I can't seem to understand the most obvious nuance of building a PC as this is my first build.

So here is the list of components I used in my current build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7k9sBP

I am using two EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW GAMING, Hydro Copper in SLI configuration

I am yet to install the water cooling but wanted to just perform a simple pre-check on the system before starting to install the water-cooling components. But I am seeing CPU temperature in the range of 850C-980C even on idle loads. At some point, even thermal throttling kicked in, again even on idle loads. I have also updated the BIOS to the latest version. I not sure what I am missing.

The only thing at this point that is amiss is that I have installed the graphics card with water blocks but no water cooling is being done. Which I do not think should matter as I am recording this temperature on idle load. The graphics card temperature are averaging out to around 400C-450C.

Also, I am running all the fans that come with my case (total of 3) and again I am running system in "open" case aka no side panels,

Any direction/suggestion are appreciated. Thanks.

Uh, yeah. Never run a chip without some form of cooling.

Well, it kind of makes sense. I don't know why I assumed it would be a good idea to run CPU without any sort of cooling. Will update once I have installed the cooling and hope the issues is solved.

Many thanks.

Should be okay as long as thermal throttling did it's job and you didn't run the chip like that for too long.
