It's an extra $200 for you?

The 1080 you picked is $590 and 1080 tis should be $700 or so. It's about a 25% performance improvement.

Note though, don't get the founders edition GPUs. The aftermarket ones should come out soon.

Oh, I'm involved in the confusion too, then. I only ever saw the 850 EVO. :P

I don't have any problem with the M.2 version of the 850 EVO at the prices I see for it. But if you want to save a bit of money somewhere you could drop down to the 250 GB version of it. I do think it's worth having some sort of SSD in a build of this caliber, though.

To answer your earlier question, NVMe is a lot faster but that will only be apparent in workloads that are heavily dependent on storage. Honestly I'm not 100% sure what those even are, but I know most consumer-level tasks like gaming, basic PC use, and even most productivity don't hit your SSD all that hard. You would probably not notice how much better NVMe is unless you were benchmarking for it, and so it's not usually worth the money these days. SATA SSDs are still lightning-fast compared to mechanical disks.

i guess it will all also depend on the monitor im buying... do you have any experience in 1080 vs 1440p and 60 hz vs144 hz and wether or not a 1440p 144hz gaming monitor is worth the extra money?

For me at least resolution matters more than refresh rate. However, I haven't really experience with 144hz so I can't really comment on 60 hz vs 144 hz. I'd say 1440p is definitely worth it, though if you're gonna get a 1080 ti I'd suggest you get a 144 hz or 165 hz monitor to go with it. G-sync might also be something you want to consider; there's a dell 24" 1440p 165 hz G sync monitor that can be had for <$500 that you might want to consider. If 24" is too small for you 27" ones of similar specs usually go for around $600 or so.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FKfNTH I tried to reduce the price as best as I can but there are some things to note that I feel you should know. You will most likely never hit 144hz on a 1440p monitor even with a 1080. I would either recommend getting a 60fps 1440p monitor or getting a 144hz 1080p monitor. If you decide to go for a 1080p 144hz i would recommend scaling the gpu down to a evga gtx 1070 ftw.

In my opinion it would be better to mount the radiator at the front so it's got fresh air going through it which is especially important when using such a high end CPU. To be honest if you really want to save some money though, having such a crazy processor might be a bit overkill and it could save you a decent amount of your budget to go for something cheaper :)

I have a few questions concerning the build tho as Im really new to pc building, this is actually my first.

I watched quite a few youtube videos about custom builds by youtubers such as techsauce, paul, linus etc and they all used the i7 6700k as their cpu and I wanted to ask what the significant differences are between the i7 6700k and the i5-7600k that you added.

also concerning the graphics card, is there any real performance difference between the hybrid ftw card I initially had versus the ftw 3.0 acx card that you added or is it just heat related?

would you recommend the i5 7600k as a better gaming cpu over the i7 6700k, bang for the buck wise

I'd say for gaming that the I5 would probably be better bang for your buck because the performance gains of the I7 aren't that necessary for gaming. I'm no expert and it does depend on what games you are playing but considering that the vast majority of games are way more GPU than CPU dependent that it's not worth spending so much on an I7 processor.

The difference between the i5 and the i7 is that the i7 is hyper-threaded and can render videos a lot faster. Games don't actually use cpu cores very well. Hyper-threading the cpu does not improve gaming performance. i7s are used in custom builds because they render videos and produce content for youtube however if you look at linus x-mas builds you will see that for gaming he just recommends an i5. There is no gaming performance difference between the hybrid and the ftw but the ftw was cheaper and had more rgb to go with your computer.

Bang for buck wise the i5 is probably a bit better, but the 6700k is still a very good option. If you're gonna be getting a 1080 or 1080 ti I'd definitely recommend getting the i7, as otherwise the CPU will probably bottleneck in some scenarios, potentially leading to very low minimums, which you definitely don't want.
