RX 480 4GB is a great card and still seems to see performance improvements every once and a while through software updates. When the Volta lineup releases nVidia will start to neglect Pascal if their history with neglecting old architecture is anything to go by whereas AMD will not do this by he same token. The RX 480 is basically tied with the GTX 1060 6GB anyways... so you might as well go with the RX 480.

Rx 480 is much better and future proof. If you buy a gtx 1060 get the 6gb verison. The 3gb verison is very much like the gtx 1050 ti with all the cuts they did.

Explain

so if your getting gtx 1060 3gb done, get rx 380

if your getting 8gb rx 480 don't get 1060 6gb, as most games are dx11 and the 1060 is better
