High CPU Usage

I've been running into a recent issue with a laptop idling at close to 20% constantly, with a high CPU usage on a single core. From what I can tell after a bit of diagnosing it might be a driver issue since the system (~15%) and system interrupts processes is somewhat high at around 3%. Anyone have an idea what would be a good method of pin pointing the problem?

Sometimes windows (especially 10) gets borked and does strange things. Clean install is the easiest way. it's honestly less time-consuming to clean install than finding the problem and fixing it.

That's why I keep myself ready for a clean windows install every 4-6 momths coz for me, all wondows do the same thing because I install and remove a lot of programs and sometimes get virus, which are not even able to removed by any antivirus.

It's just the System process so I couldn't pinpoint it down very far, only thing I found was the ACPI.sys (~3-5%) but it didn't account for 20% usage at idle.

I did this with another desktop at the same time without a problem, thought it might have just be something I could uninstall.

Everything has been updated in the system at this point so it shouldn't keep checking on it.

Dumb question, but is the screen using the CPU or GPU for output?

It's setup currently to auto on Nvidia's power save option so it should just be on the integrated graphics when at idle. Should I try defaulting it to the dedicated GPU and disable the integrated?

That wouldn't increase CPU usage since the IGP is a separate component from the actual CPU, despite being on the same die.

No ideas then.

I would be cautious around Samsung laptops though... Might be using CPU cycles contemplating proper detonation parameters?

Yeah no difference I guess when in doubt reinstall, and well now you mention that it did try to set itself on fire one day when it decided to update itself when in my bag xD

I know sometimes my anti malware features of my anti virus program, Trend Micro, will kick in and just get "stuck" and make my CPU usage go up like this, but I see this in the task manager so I can shut it down. Doesnt seem like it is it based on the description you are giving. Any bloatware items running by chance?

It's a fairly fresh install and nothing I can see that would bog it down, I disabled all the firewalls and such to see if it was being overly active in the background and nothing changed. A little stumped at why it would suddenly do this to be honest.

Now I'm really lost, the system just got a fresh copy of windows and I'm still getting the same problem with it a little lower idling at 15% usage. Still with a single core at high load and system process being overly active.

Strange.

Maybe it's just indexing files or something.

leave it out for an hour and see if it calms down. sometimes fresh installs have some work to do at the beginning. could be totally unrelated.

I'll see what happens overnight but I have my doubts, I might try to make a new ISO to see if the old one has some issue since I previously used it.
