What do you mean "as normal"? are you compiling and building the solution?

What do you mean you saved it as a .exe? You need to compile/build the entire solution, VS will take care of the rest and you will get the .exe file on:

/documents/Visual Studio 201x/projects/"project name"/bin/debug. If you try to just "save as .exe" you are not compiling anything! and worst of all you are leaving all the assembly and resources out!

Why would you even be wanting to do that? You start a new application with zero code or anything? So its nothing even if you did compile everything.

Well, you won't be making a program like that right off the bat.

Do you even know any programming languages? You can't just open visual studio and "save as .exe" and expect it to be an application...

Well no. It's not like a word document. Again, what do you know? Any languages at all? If not I suggest you start with something simple. Codecademy is a good website to start.

Here it is shown (in craptastic quality), how you do it. Here I do it for C#, but its the same for any language. I need to go to sleep (I have exams tomorrow), but ill answer any questions as soon as I can.

I recommend starting with this free video course for getting started with C# and .NET - Microsoft Virtual Academy: C# For Absolute Beginners

edit: I just saw the C++ tag.

For that they have this free course - Microsoft Virtual Academy: C++: A General Purpose Language and Library Jump Start

However it doesn't seem to be recommend for beginners so another option is to use Pluralsight (get three free months with the Visual Studio Dev Essentials program) and check out their C++ path. Side note: You should be able to follow these older tutorials with the new tool versions (like the latest version of Visual Studio instead of the older version they might be using).
