Potentially. Depends on firewall and that thing.

Dont give out your IP.

You'll be fine.

A few years back i hosted an mc server with a steady 40 players on at a time and never once has someone try to hack into it.

Forgot that you were hosting when i typed that lol.

If you run Skype, you have ports open for it.

If i had your IP i could scan it for ANY open ports.

I guarantee you that you have open ports on your network......

Dont worry about it.

It should still be fine.

I was just clarifying what @Jrock was saying, not suggesting you acutally do it.

That seems pretty safe.

Something I would advise doing is using a high number port, rather than lower number port, as they are typically attacked less often. Common/default ports like 20, 21, 22, 80 etc. are more likely to suffer random attacks.

The server can run on any port, you just have to change the configuration files to match the port you choose. Makes it even more secure if you're using a port that isn't used for something as common as an MC server.

You could also look into setting up DynDNS so that you can give people a URL to use instead of giving them your IP address at all (obviously, they can still find it pretty easy, but it's not clearly visible).

yea i have a dynamic ip address so i am going to hace duckdns giveing my server one static host name and then i will have godaddy point one of my host names to that host name
