what makes good cooling?

Go to solution Solved by airdeano,

h220 has copper fins in a brass radiator - h100/i is aluminum fins and radiator

they both have copper cold plates (copper CPU bases)

h220 has an adjustable pump speed that is greater in volume and speed over the fixed speed H100/i

h220 is 2mm thicker (29mm thick) than h100/i (27mm thick)

h220 has 11 brass tubes to h100/i 13 aluminum tube (coolant transfer)

h220 has 14 fins per inch array as the h100/i has 20 fins per inch

i know im not really in the know but why is it discontinued?

some company sent them a letter telling them to stop selling it becuase it infringed on their patent. swiftech is a small company so it is likely they dont have the money to fund the lawsuit.

Swiftech suspended US sales due to patent infringement on Asetek assignments.

they did receive a letter from Asetek, but Swiftech didn't want to fight it in a court

battle.

Cooler Master has released the Glacer 240L which subbed by Swiftech,

but more is prolly going to come up about it as CM has some cases with

AseTek at this time as well.

Directly comparing an h100i to an h220, what makes the h220 better at cooling. From the radiators to the block for the CPU, where is most of the performance at? So Im looking for a highly detailed answer. The more specifics the better.

Efficient heat dissipation makes a good cooler, therefore copper and lots of surface area are what you want to look for in a cooler.

I'm going to make an intelligent guess and say it's a combination of the CPU block and pump (so cpu block basically) there's also the fins per inch to take into account since the h100i has the same FPI as the h80i it's quite a low end 240mm rad when you think about it...

it's better, stop fighting it.

I have an h220 and i bought it because it preforms better than an h100i. Im just looking for where I shoved money to get that better performance. im an engineer, its one of the things I question.

The H220 is better in every way basically: it has a stronger pump, more surface area, copper block and radiator, it can be expanded, it will last longer, you can use different coolant, it comes with better fans.
