Sounds like a perfect job for Resilio Sync (formerly Bittorrent Sync).

It basically sets up peer-to-peer syncing/backup between any computers you have it configured on. It's pretty useful if you want syncing/transfers between machines, but don't want to rely on a cloud server like dropbox/mega.

If it's still slow and you are wanting a cloud solution (as opposed to the resilio option), I'd suggest MEGA. It has high capacity and pretty fast speeds from my experience.

I might not rely on it for long term data backups or sensitive documents like banking info mainly due to the reputation of MEGA for piracy and the like, but it would be suitable for a short-term solution as you've described needing.

I know this is old but you could have used the migration assistant in MacOS.....
