Backup solution for dual booted XPS 13

Scenario. I have a Kaby Lake XPS 13 that is dual booted with both Windows 10 home and Linux Mint.

Partition Setup. There are three main partitions (plus the boot-loader and what not) on the 256gb nvme drive:

  1. For Linux formatted as Mac NTFS
  2. For Windows formatted as NTFS
  3. For shared documents formatted FAT32

At My Disposal. I have a generic 1tb external hdd that is not in use.

The Question. What would be the most elegant way to backup my machine? Ideally in case of failure, I should just  be able to clone the partitions back over and be up and running again. Also if I could keep multiple backups (maybe one weekly and one monthly) just in case, that would nice since the hdd is significantly bigger than the nvme drive anyways.

Thanks in advance xD
