Do you notice specific times of day that you have the drops? My assumption is that you are on a dsl line that will fluctuate with network congestion. Also do you live in a congested area with multiple WiFi networks? You may be having an issue with signal interference.

Has the asus router recently stopped working and now you are having problems, or has it never worked?

when you set it to AP mode it no longer assigns IP addresses, instead IP addresses will be assigned by your ISP provided router. Depending on your comfort with networking, you can either pull up the active DHCP leases on your ISP router and figure out what IP the ASUS router has been assigned, or i believe asus has a tool you can download that will help you determine the new IP address. Once you have the ASUS IP all you do is enter that into a browser, for example 192.168.1.85 instead of the 192.168.1.1 you would enter normally. From there you should be able to configure the router to function properly as an AP and avoid further issues.

Are you connection the ASUS router to the ISP router via ethernet or are you trying to use it as a wifi bridged AP? The latter will be more complicated and wont resolve the issue of the poor performance of the ISP router.

If none of this works there is also a way to set the router to a specific IP address prior to setting it up as a AP, again this is a bit more complicated but i could walk you through, possibly even with screen shots as i also have a coupe asus routers that would have similar interfaces.

I would suggest when you move to stay away from DSL. Its a dead technology it just doesnt know it yet. Try to go for a cable or fiber connection. While I they bend you over and fuck you every month with their bill, Comcast has mostly a solid network. They just like to raise fees.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
