I think a remember watching a video which said that is a bunch of bs made by some angry guy. There was a twitter post by one of the higher up people in the andromeda production stuff saying she wasn't lead in anything and that the people saying that we're pretty much ass holes. And other more established news sites also put that stuff down. I'll see if I can find it along with the evidence he found.

That's the article linked. But of course EA would never admit they fucked up with one of their core hires so I don't implicitly trust them either: It's clear that EA fucked in a major way since a low ranking animator wouldn't be authorized to "ok" the game in the state that it launched.

It might not be this rumor it might be just some other suit that said "No time to fix them we're gonna miss the deadline, ship as is and roll with the memes" Deadline pressure sounds like a much more likely scenario in fact.

As long the preorder numbers speak for themself, they have no Reason to change that behaviour. Its in our hands.

not idea. if those numbers were released it'll probably be estimates

very mixed. not just the whole controversy with the animations

Word is that they scrapped the game after a year of trying to make it like No Mans Sky.  Which would explain the lack of polish in area's, doesn't excuse it though they should have delayed the game longer and released it in a more polished state.  Over all though I've been enjoying the game and have 60 hours into single player.

BioWare are just average at best. They should rename themself. They dont deserve this Name anymore.

Funny you should mention that, a shitlord on Twitter (I forgot who right now) looked at her resume and she had like 3 years of previous experience animating according to her LinkedIn profile which probably means she took an animation course in college and had 0 experience and EA put her in charge as an affirmative hair cause she probably screamed "Vagina!" and got the job that way in modern PC happy EA.

"you and me both pathfinder." lol I got over 60 hours into that game in 5 days, I took a break today. I woke up at 2-3 pm played andromeda till 4-6 Am lol. imo it was and still is well worth $48, I just really wished they did better on the romantic relationships. The bromances were pretty good though imo that was a neat addition.

How much did mass effect andromeda cost to produce?

How much money has mass effect andromeda made so far?

What is the general response to the game so far? Are most people saying it's good, bad, mixed?

1. EA gave them a budget of 40 million usd to develop AND MARKET the game, or $15 million less than ME3 who had a separate marketing budget. Far less than most AAA games. Witcher 3 had an 87 Million USD budget, GTA V 250 million, Destiny 200 million, Final Fantasy 7 made way back in 1997 had a 250 million dollar budget! Horizon Zero Dawn had $47 Million, but almost the same in marketing from Sony.

The game was in flux throughout production, as a leaked concept script turned "Dark Matter/Energy into that "Scourge" crap which was supposed to be the focus. The lead writer from the last two games in the trilogy left after in house fighting over story concept. Halfway through the game, the lead designer quit, the new lead writer was promoted to lead designer, and numerous other designers, writers, animators and artists followed suit (either quiting, getting fired, or getting promoted because of the losses.)

Bioware Edmonton (Who made the first 3 ME games) had to take over for a couple of months to try and get back on schedule.

2. Estimates are it has sold 1.5 million copies at an average of $53 usd per copy. I did all the math last week but did not record it, but basically when you figure in microtransaction average, merchandising, special edition orders, I forget the other variables, the total net profit as of 9 days ago was roughly $160 million USD, and is considered a failure financially by EA who expected between 3-6 million sales the first week.

3. The general response by Bioware/Mass Effect fans has been harsh. The facial animations were focused on, but Manveer Heir saying he hates white people, drinks white tears, enjoys scaring white people as it is his compensation for the prejudice he faced after 9/11 (Type Manveer Heir Rags into Youtube and you will see his tweets, quotes, etc.) was a lead designer on the game (He was let go right after release). Then we had two Proud 3rd Wave Feminists who wanted a button to skip fighting, and pressured various people into intentionally making hte female characters lass attractive so as not to make an unrealistic representation of women in their game. Aaron Flynn made a detailed quote on this, and it explains why the female Ryder, and other female characters look nothing like their real life models, where as the males do. Whatever. ThenTransgender people flipped out because the transgender character in the game tell Ryder her "Dead" name (The male name she was givin at birth while explaining her backstory and why she made the 600+ year trip to Andromeda.

The female animator people are talking about was a lead facial designer for a brief period of time and had no video game experience. She did work heavily in animation though, graduated one of the best animation colleges in the world, and would have made a great addition, just probably not as a lead. In the artists and animators defense, they offered to fix the female humans and Asari numerous times, but were told "No, focus on other things like the vehicles, rock textures etc. . They also did not use motion capture for lyp sync, instead they used crysync which is a program often used for NPC's that mean nothing in a crowd of people.

The game is good. I have put it out of hand until further patches come out. I did make the mistake of loading up ME 2 today (The only ME I have on PC, as I played hte 1rst on 360, the 3nd on PC, the 3rd on PS3), and wow was that a mistake as the graphics and story are just so much better. The fighting? No, but it does have some aspects of fighting that I feel are better (like press to go into cover, not that lame you walk to close to something and bam, you are in cover. I hate that.

The planet graphics are better in MEA. The fighting much better. Much better Multi player than ME 3 (Which I thought was excellent to begin with); the story concept is very good, but the writing falls way short of Chris Avellone's work. It's more like a Teen Nick or Disney xD Sci Fi with boobs than "Mass Effect". No Renegade or Paragon I thought would be better. It is, except, so far, there have been no negative consequences to any of my decisions. Not one.

Realistically, I give the game a 7 out of 10 so far. It is a slightly above average AAA game. If I can get used to the light hearted attitude everyone has, that view may change, but Spoiler below:

Reactions live "Where's Pathfinder" "He's dead. I am the new Pathfinder now"...then you get insulted, and move on to romancing before leaving to do a mission and laugh with friends in the Nomad. That really bugged me. Dire "We need a place to live or we will all die!" is treated with whimsical "He's mad. *Laughter*I shot 'em in the fuckin face". This is said by our diplomat early on at first contact with aliens.

I bought the game last week and already logged 23 hours so far ... it feels like I'm about a third of the way through the story.  Here are my pros and cons:

Pros:

  • Environmental graphics are gorgeous
  • The setting does elicit a sense of exploration -- I do feel like an explorer rather than a savior (a la Shepard)
  • The character creation is quite granular -- I especially appreciate the fact that Alec Ryder's appearance changes based on your own character
  • Some squad members are great -- I particularly enjoy Liam (aside from his cheesy one-liners) and Peebee
  • Some of the conversations between squad members while riding the Nomad are actually quite enjoyable.

Cons:

  • The antagonist is bland -- most of the time, the Kett just seem like a lame excuse to shoot something rather than an enemy with complex motives.
  • The vault puzzles are repetitive and uninspired
  • The mission organisation is non-existant -- I understand this is an open-world RPG, but a greater degree of linearity in the priority ops would go a long way is improving the narrative.
  • The romance options for some characters are forced and out-of-place.  It feels as if the only reason for Cora's existence is so that Bioware could make a XXX scene.  There's also, literally, a dialogue choice with Peebee where Ryder ASKS how best to flirt with her (if only that worked in real life).
  • Oh, and how could I forget the facial animations.

All in all, I see myself sinking a few dozen hours into this game, so this was money well spent.

I agree with most of what you said, though I thought the opposite most of the time (so subjectively those game aspects are there but they took away from the experience for me in some cases). ei. Liam's 1 liners drove me nuts. He is supposed to be Public Relations Diplomat, not "I shot 'em in the F'n head!". It's like they were shooting an action sitcom for teens. Archon is bland as heck, yep. Quest organization is a disaster. It's like searching for a specific toy in a child's room. From all the hype about the sex scenes I was let down. They show boobs. I personally don't care, but it was far less sexual than The Witcher, which is what I was expecting by the hype. This is a PG 13 game in my opinion, R at it's dirtiest, which is about 5 minutes of the entire game if you romance three people. Far from XXX.

I thought the character gen was "OK", but the lack of hairstyles, the few facial hair options (Like everyone with a goatee does not have hair going from the middle of their bottom lip to wear the hair begins on their chin. Is that a Canadian thing? ie they don't grow hair there? Or it's stylish to shave it off? It's just odd). I made some great looking female and male characters though, that even looked good in game! That was tricky, and if you don't use someone else's pre-based sliders (there is a good subbreddit for it) expect to spend a few hours on each twin.

The exterior graphics are exceptional, interiors are, IMO, no better than those of ME 2 or 3. Cut scenes without characters are the same quality as the original series, which is fine as they were great. With characters, they are worse. The character meshes (The 3d models they lay skins over) are worse for humans and Asari than in any of the ME games. Just replaying ME 2 now and I am noticing the huge lack of, I don't know if it was just effort (I know they tried to make the women's faces less attractive, but the actual body models of both men and woman are worse as well), or lack of skill. I also know this was Bioware Montreal's first time using the Frostbite engine, as they were using Unreal in all the other games in the trilogy (DAO was Bio's first game with Frostbite, and that is definitely their A team in Edmonton. Anyway, they said it was difficult, so...).

I may be the only person on the planet who liked the puzzles, but I did. Peebee, cool annoying lil sis. Liam, annoying friend who thinks he is way cooler than he is and loves taking his shirt off. The conversations could be funny at times, I just wish they would have made some serious tones to the game too. That is possible aiming at the 14-21 year old demographic, the SJW demographic, and, well, you just can't please 3rd wave feminists anyway, so that is a moot point. Anyone that says "Bioware, you need to use gender neutral adjectives until that character gives you permission to use he or she is not buying the game anyway (But they will make YouTube videos and write articles about it), and unfortunately two of the writers are 3rd wave who actually pushed for that nonsense (along with the skip combat option).

Still definitely worth the $35-$60 price tag, as it is what it is. A fun, great combat oriented rpg filled with levity, even if none of your choices make a permanent difference (Well one does, but even that is forgiven. I won't spoil it, but it is something I would never forgive. Ever, and I'm pretty nice).

Anyway, here is an example of the "Intentionally less attractive women". The Sun also did a large write up on it, along with videos. I will leave the Manveer Heir vids (A lead developer) for another time, or you can simply YouTube search it, and see how much he really doe hate you (by you I mean any male who is  non-Arabic or of African Descent). Oh, I'll throw a short one in..."

Here is a bit on the Women (I know, they helped out with the eyes and waggle walk, which I never had a problem with btw) then some Manveer, and well other stuff...
