Changing from AMD to INTEL?

HI.

How easy is it to change my current pc, with a amd fx6300 and gigabyte motherboard, to an intel i5?

I don't really care about reinstalling windows. Can i just plug everything out, keep the parts i want (ram, gpu etc) and install the new mobo and cpu?

Thanks!

If the motherboard still uses DDR3, yeah.

It's pretty easy , but why would you even consider buying an i5 at this point ?

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

There shouldn't be any problems.

*There's some DDR2 ram that's AMD-only, that's the only thing I can think of.

THIS ^^^^^^^

i5's should not be used for any purpose other than budget gaming. I7/Ryzen is now the go to processor for gaming or content creation. If you are prepared to buy a new chip and motherboard, please go the extra and upgrade to something that will last you or you will be in this bi-annual upgrade circle for ever

Well considering that ryzen 5 will come out in about 2 weeks and will be faster , ( especially considering cpu usage on i5's is pretty high in modern titles ), it doesn't seem like a great idea.

Well, i AM on a budget. But i don't mind waiting and getting something better. Because i don't want to keep upgrading all the time lol.

Any info on the ryzen prices?

Ryzen 5 will go anywhere from 169$ for a 3.2/3.4 ghz 4 core/8thread chip up to 249$ for a 6c/12t cpu at 3.6/4ghz .

r5 1600 seems to be the sweet spot , with 6c/12t for only 219$.

Keep in mind all of them will be unlocked .

I have a keen eye on that R5 1600 - we will see, I may however stick with my 4790k for another year or so and grab a second gen Ryzen

only if you want to . The stock wraith cooler that comes with the 1600 and 1600x is actually pretty beefy . I wouldn't expect ryzen 5 to clock significantly higher than ryzen 7 , but it's still something to keep in mind , especially if you've been looking at the lower end , locked i5's such as the 7400 and 7500 .

4790k is actually a very capable chip , even today . The only reason i upgraded from my OC 3770k is because it broke.

I might be wrong but from what I recall the 1600x is not coming with stock cooling, it is the only one that won't come with a stock cooler though... regardless it might be capable of reaching 4ghz on proper cooling and being by all means a superior chip to the current i5 7600k... Threads are the future xD
