Hi guys,

Budgets about $2500-$3000

I need a build for work. Some of the things i'll be doing at work are:

Design programs such as AutoCAD, SoftPlan, Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, Acrobat, Corel Draw, Heavy Word Processing,  and Large Excel Spreadsheets. I will also need a very good network card. Oh! I'll also need a good amount of HDD space.

This computer is going to be at work, and home often. So i'm going to be using the Cm Storm Stryker.

Here's what i'm thinking so far:

i7-4770

Nvidia Quadro K2000

ASUS Z87-Pro

16GB of Corsair RAM

Noctua NH-U14S

250GB Samsung 840 EVO

Intel 2 RJ45 Port NIC.

4x4TB WD RED 7200RPM Drives.

Seasonc SSR-650RM

How does this sound?

Also i'll be running a 2560x1440 monitor.

Thanks!

16GB of Corsair RAM

You will need more ram sir...

Also if you use a virtual ram disk for Photoshop scratch drive that's always a good laugh...

Look at Linus's Ultimate Video Editing Build Guide.

For starters:

I don't need a 4930K/3930K

Secondly:

I don't need a Quadro K4000

Thirdly:

No need for 32GB/64GB of RAM

I've seen it.

I don't need half the stuff he has in that build.

4x4TB WD RED 7200RPM Drives.

For a grand total on Newegg.ca of $3089.11 However i'm guessing the end price will be around $2500 due to supplier prices, not retail prices.

How does this sound?

Also i'll be running a 2560x1440 monitor.

Thanks!

I am not a editor myself so I can´t help you with everything, but some things I can help you with :)

1) You need to specify the specs of the RAM you are buying so we can help you on that.  Brand got next to nothing to say when it comes to RAM so it is is more important to know the speed, CL rating and model number.

2) I would´t personally recommend a air cooler because of poor compatibility with RAM (although your chosen one is quite nice) so I would look into something like a H100i or H110 instead (AIO water coolers).

3) I would personally recommend getting a Quadro and a Geforce series card (700 series for example) because of the pure power a Geforce series card actually got. Quadro is more feature specced then actual performance...

4) Case is subjective, but if you are using it a work I would generally go for something less striking and more "classy" like a Corsair or Fractal Design case. But again: Personal preference.

I don´t really think you need anymore RAM, but as stated am I not a video editor so this is something you will know better then me.

Hope I helped and if anything isn´t clear just quote me and I will try to help you out :)

EDIT: 5) It would also help us a lot to help you if you could state your chosen PSU.

1: I was thinking Corsair Vengeance Black 1600Mhz Cl9.

2: Never even crossed my mind. thanks!

3: Not pouring that much money into it, I'll just go with a Quadro.

4: My boss's case: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129100&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwordsCA&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwordsCA-_-pla-_-Computer+Cases-_-N82E16811129100&ef_id=UoDnHQAAASkicQvh:20131113153139:s

My Tech computer case: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021

I don't think that case matters much.

Thanks!

Forgot all about the power supply... Haven't fully woken up yet... Whoops!

It's fixed now...

I have had Premiere Pro use 28GB buy itself before now... If you want to have large files open in Photoshop, Illustrator at the same time you will need 24Gb, but one off my office machines the other day came up with an error that it could not load an illustrator file and that had 24GB in it  :o

Depends on what you're doing.

You're like the Knufire of LTT. Wow.

I like it a lot. I do think though would the hyper threading not help? Like with the threaded work loads?

Another thing i do need is more then one 5.25" drive bays.

The Xeon has HT. It's basically an i7 with no iGPU and some virtualization features.

Didn't realize that... Been a while since i've had to play with Xeon's. Sorry about that. I think i'll go with what you suggested. Maybe even put more money into the GPU with the money you've saved me. Thanks guy!

Sure. I was considering putting a K4000 in it but I always try to leave headroom in the budget whenever possible in case you remembered you needed something else and taxes/other fees.

Btw, are you sure you need so much storage? Because that's a lot to start with and you're probably better off getting less and adding as you need more if you're not using so much right off the bat.

I work at a computer store, so i get marginally cheaper prices then say going to Newegg, or what have you. So i should be fine. I'll send the supplier my list tomorrow. Thanks guys.
