My Acer Aspire 4738G has been acting up lately , whenever i try to boot it , it would shut off as if someone had pulled out the battery , this happens usually under 1 minute after starting up. If i enter the bios , it stops shutting off but if i try to let it boot into windows , it shuts off.

How hot is the laptop when this happens?

The HD noise is it just a click followed by a spinning down after the power cut, that normal form a power cut out.

if it’s before the power cut-out/crash then its probably your tardive.

The linux boot CD will tell you if it the HD as it is not need to boot.

I think your fan may not be running, is it (or clogged with dust)?  There may also be a second internal fan (rare)

After it has cut-out you probably won’t be able to boot it for 10-20 mins again as it will need to cool down, if it a cooling issue.

Your laptop may have not been able to keep cool during the game, overheated and when you have rebooted it has still been to hot.

nope this suddenly happened while i was playing a game

It could be over heating it has happened to me before, clean out the fans and if that doesn't work buy an external cooling pad like this:

If it starts to feel "burn your hand warm," you might want to replace the thermal compound if possible.

If you are willing to open your laptop up and completely remove the heatsink and fan take the fan off and clean the heatsink and use some isopropyl alcohol to clean the contact points on both the processor and heatsink put some new thermal compound on and put it all back together if its a heat problem then that should fix it. If your not willing then maybe take it into the place you brought it from or a computer store.
