As @UberGamerKing said, if you're getting an i7-7700 or i5-7600, get a Z270 board. Z170 boards are compatible only after a BIOS update, which you can't do if you don't have a compatible CPU installed.

Also to add what they said, figure out what motherboard features you need and get the cheapest thing that fits that. Motherboards don't add performance, only connectivity. So spending $250USD Z270 on a motherboard makes no real difference in performance or anything than a $120USD Z270 board.

Ryzen 7 is what I would call more suited for multithreaded workloads. This doesn't mean its bad, but it would be better for stuff like video rendering or having 172 tabs of Chrome open.

so an ASUS Prime Z270-P, Socket-1151 would work fine?

yes it would. although be aware that that board does not have SLI support.

and only has 4  sata 6gb/s headers

i'm not that good with computers what is an sli support?

SLI allows you to run two get an additional graphics card, and have them share the workload.

You can.

Well, with the caveat that it's not a standard feature. :P

But I'd rather have OP get a motherboard with the features they want and compatibility right out of the box. It makes things easier that way.

Yeah and only high end boards have those features. Even something popular like Asus Z170-A doesn't

I would say they should make a standard feature, but how often do you need to update BIOS without a CPU?

The cost of making an extra BIOS update button is expensive I guess

And besides if you need to you only do it once

Yes, yes, maybe, and yes.

The maybe part is don't get any cheapo SSD. That goes about as good as you'd expect. If I were to make a suggestion, SanDisk and Kingston both make good budget SSDs.

I don't see anything else that needs to be changed other than what's been said.
