Hey Folks,

I'm starting to put aside some cash for what will likely be a Ryzen 5 build in or around October/November and the main thing I'm considering right now is a new case. I have a BeQuiet SilenBase 800 which has frankly been a massive dissapointment after my venerable Antec P182SE. Its had a faulty power button and develops a massively irritating buzzing noise which according to support is due to some kind of harmonic resonance between a component and the chassis.. though its worth noting a friend of mine with the same case and totally different parts also had the exact same issue :/

Anyhow onto the main point, I'm tired of huge cases for a new build I want to go with the small form factor. Enough to fit my GPU/Wifi Card, some SSDs and a HDD. Glass is nice but not needed, and all around grills would be hated (it can get dusty here with 4 cats and 2 dogs :P) So, any thoughts on the matter guys ?:) (And gals ?:) )

S340 Elite, Phanteks P400S Tempered Glass (my pick, not exactly SFF but a compact midtower), Fractal Define C or Mini C (mATX version), NZXT H440 (bigger side of midtower), Phanteks Evolv iTX

Well, without knowing what else you have, your options are limited to micro ATX since you mentioned a GPU and Wi-Fi card, and to be honest, while they're definitely smaller than ATX, you can go smaller. If you're looking for some of the smallest cases without compromising on what GPU you can use or whatnot:

  • Dan Case A4-SFX
  • Fractal Design Node 202
  • Silverstone RVZ02/ML-08
  • Silverstone RVZ01/FTZ01

You'll just have to remember to get a motherboard that comes with a Wi-Fi card.

I'm a bit "eh" to the cube style mini-ITX cases like the Corsair 250D or Fractal Design Node 304. They still have a similar footprint to some mATX cases.

Fractal Design Node 304, Silverstone SG13, or DanCase A4-SFX if you can afford it. If you want glass, Fractal Design Define Nano S or Phanteks Evolv ITX

lCases I have been looking at for the same purpose:

Fractal Node 202 - (Can support slim 240 radiator and 12mm fan when GPU waterblock attached) - $70-80 10L

Zaber Sentry - $230+S&H (Check GPU support for overheight GPUs) 7.1 L

NFC S4 Mini - $252 with riser card and power switch (ITX cards only under 8", external power brick w/pico psu/ HD Plex 300) 4.3L

As you can tell, I'm not a huge fan of the "Cube" design.

I do like the monolithic style cases where they are just featureless and solid but most of the SFF cube cases look like black swiss cheese. Still that Silverstone Raven case looked quite promising and is certainly going on my short list. Thanks for your own contributions, i'll be looking them up shortly too :)

Ayy nice avatar ?

If you want a mini case with little sacrifice, you can try the Fractal Core 500. Evertime I consider another case, I'm always reminded I'd also have to drop over 100 extra for an sfx psu and cooler..my case is smaller than some mini towers and yet fits reg sized parts...

There is a shocking amount of furriness on this board lol. But thanks :)

So far I'm leaning toward an older case Carbide Air 240 which may work quite well for my needs but i'm keeping my eyes open on a few others :)
