So I noticed many Alienware 17 R4s (with a gtx 1070) on ebay for a decent price but they are all 1080p, and the 4k ones cost way too much. Is there any way to buy a 4k 60 hz 17.3 inch screen for a cheaper price (preferably ~$250 US, (335 cad) ) and replace it with the current? I saw a few on ebay but I don't know if there has to be a certain compatability - like thiness, which other places will list in the details

You'll have to find a part that is explicitly noted to be compatible with the laptop. Manufactures have different panels for different applications. A 14" panel on an ultra-book might not necessarily work on a 14" regular sized laptop of the same generation. Different manufactures could also use their own style of connector for the display. You might be able to find compatible third party displays.

Hi.

Then grab this panel: http://www.panelook.com/B173ZAN01.0_AUO_17.3_LCM_parameter_25358.html

And replace it yourself. That panel is currently the best 17in panel in the world hands down with the best color accuracy.

^ this guy replaced the screen for his AW17R4.

You're welcome. You may or may not need a new cable for that. The cable is really shit anyway but let me double check. @Galm @edit1754 I forgot whether you need the 40pin or 30pin cable for the AUO 4k screen and whether the 1080p config comes with the 30pin or 40pin.

Mm I wanna say it may only come with the 30 pin and you need 40 but I'm not positive sorry.
