you will get roughly the same performance, however the 980ti needs more power and is older architecture. Your call but 980 ti for 160.00 less seems like a good value for pure gaming.

Well this is a good question if 980ti or 1070. This sucks at all, because your prices are kinda overrated. But let's ask you a question. You go buy a 980ti second hand. What do you do if the gpu stops working, failures or gets damaged because the first owner didn't give a damn about it and its' temps?

I do always question myself on this subject when I am about to buy something second hand. Don't want to blame you or give you false information. It's just food for thought.

Both are great GPUs, but I'd go with the 1070 since it has newer architecture and other stuff, even if its' price it's a bit spicy.

only a 1080ti for me is overkill hell the 1070 is a little overkill.

Good question I'm in USA and EVGA has been my go to because of their suport. They are great for RMA even second hand!

Well there are many PC lovers, but there are many douches too. PC lovers take care of their PC and of its each component, the douche just leaves it back there and calls for support when the PC isn't working at all. That's why I consider going second hand a bit dangerous.

I'm with you. GPU's more so. I haven't experiences or heard of CPU's dying before

 motherboards or becoming outdated

-snip-

I'd go with the 980 Ti.

I own both, and depending on how much of a OC the 980 Ti can get to, it can overshadow the 1070 pretty quickly. I have both my 1070 and 980 Ti overclocked, but the 980 Ti pulls ahead. It renders around 12% faster too in vray. That being said, the 980 Ti also pulls 50-75W more on average compared to my 1070.

But if you can wait, Vega seems really interesting as well.

You know after you overclock the 980ti which does it much better than the 1070 the cards are essentially the same, some 980ti can even outperform some 1070's so if you consider the 1070 overkill to your needs the very same applies to the 980ti making it the best deal here.
