Hi guys

Yesterday, the most tragic accident happened.

A few weeks ago, I bought these Bitfenix alchemy connect leds and installed them in my case. They have an adhesive side on them so I put 2 on the top and 1 on the bottom on the inside of my case.

Now, these leds become quiet hot, and yesterday, one of the top leds fell down, with the naked back end (which is not secured in any way, so it can short out anything) straight onto my GPU. A €300 ($400) Asus HD 7950 DCU2 TOP. My screen instantly turned white, I couldn't do anything.

After a forced reboot of my system, my screen had 2 blue rectangles running across my screen and they would not go away.

Now, I think my mobo's not dead because I can go into my bios etc, but I do think my boot SSD is dead. Booting windows is impossible.

I hope my CPU is ok, but I have no idea how to test this.

but now to the real point of this post : Bitfenix should cover this.

It's totally bitfenix's fault. The stuff they sell should be safe to put in your PC. There's no reference on the packaging that says it can harm your PC in any way.

First of all: their adhesive tape on the leds is way to weak. It loosens up when it gets heated by its own led lights.

Secondly; every led strip should come with a plastic cap or something to make sure nothing touches the end of your led strip, thus shorting your entire system.

Thank you Bitfenix for ruining my night.

What do you guys think I should do?

What CAN I do?

Reinstall windows and (if you have CPU with iGPU) boot from it. Run some CPU tests (IntelBurnTest if you have intel CPU)

About Betfenix should cover for it - they can say you didnt do it properly.

Man up and stop trying to find something to blame for what essentially is bad luck. It's not their fault that every once in a while something bad happens. It's called life. Who's to say you just didn't install the strips correctly or put them on the case when the panel had a little too much dust on it. I say you're taking this out of proportion.

LEDs shouldn't heat up. If you can prove they get hot and show Bitfenix, then that means it was a faulty connection.

Maybe take apart everything and resit them. Also try to wipe the naked PCB of the 7950 clean.

For the SSD,just go to boot menu and attempt to boot from it.Also try another Sata port, the current one might be fried.Do memtest86 too to see if the RAM is fine.

the problem is that it could just be extremely hot in his case and it got hot due to that. in which case the OP might be at fault here

Their LED's run hot though. I have a strip and several of my friends have them, and they all run pretty toasty.

The LED's run warm, but do not melt the adhesive on the back. Infact, we use 3M grade, and there isn't anything better to hold them on unless it damages the material it sticks onto. If the underside of your case wasn't clean when it was installed, or it wasn't installed properly, they can fall off.

That said, The LED's can't short the GPU. something has to be inserted into the ends of the LED for it to conduct electricity as the ends are plastic. Secondly, if the graphics card was shorted, there would be a burn mark on the PCB. Can you check for that?

It's the same with the Phobya LED strips. The adhesive is super sticky to everything except the rubber/plastic of the LED strips themselfes. That's why i used some twist ties to mount mine firmly at the holes where my case's side panel latches in. I had mine falling down too but never had such a bad accident as you. That 'naked' unsecured end is really bad though. The LED strip should be covered in non conductive plastic/rubber all around.

who cares...
