Which GTX 1070?

Hello!

I'm looking to get a GTX 1070, however I'm new to this, so I'm unsure which brand to go with. Is there much difference between for example EVGA or Asus?

I'd prefer the best GTX 1070 in price to performance, or just the best version that there is.

Yeah Asus Strix is basically the best to get.

I would recommend Gigabyte Windforce or G1 Gaming versions. Cheaper than ASUS, and same performance / cooling. I'm very happy with my Gigabyte G1 1070

I'd go with a GTX 1080 now. The 1070 was good value when it was $450 while any decent 1080 was $650, but with the 1080 at $500 I don't think the 1070 at $400 is that good a deal any more.

I don't think I'll need the extra power though, as I'll only be playing at probably 1440p. Would the extra power be necessary?

Because games get harder to run pretty quickly and 1440p is still a pretty high resolution. The 1080 is 23% faster at 1440p in the most recent techpowerup testsuite published five days ago in their 1080 Ti review. One to one scaling in performance to price is pretty good with something as expensive and as critical to gaming performance as a gpu.
