Hello folks.

We are running a kids internet-tv studio, basically a livestream.

We have several PC, but one of them is the main streaming machine...it does only 2 tasks:

1) Runs Wirecast to join all the web cameras into a single autoswtiching playlist

2) Runs xSplit to stream it all to the webs

This machine doen't have a GPU, only software encoding

Currently we have an intel 6700k there...and we are planning to upgrade.

So, the question is...fot a PC that does streaming only (no games) should we stick to a more Mhz CPU, like 7700k or try the new more cores Ryzen 1800x?

And, also, will we benefit from using a dedicated GPU? like 1070 or so?

Thank you in advance

get a ryzen 1700 in there, and maybe something like an RX460 as a GPU, but even that is probably overkill.

that said, depending on the specific encoding job, a 4790k is still a pretty capable encoding workhorse.

I would keep it at software encoding with a CPU and more cores would benefit this task more than a 7700K.

For GPU it doens't really matter what you get as it has no impact.

R7 1700 is probably what to go for, but i cant say that from my experience i have had any problems outside of internet speeds when streameing on my I5 4690K

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)
