So i am not super smart about all the technical stuff about hardware but i can read benchmarks ? im building a new pc over the next few months and with the launch of ryzen i am not sure which cpu to get. My last pc i built over 3 years ago had a i5 4690k. I want a better cpu for streaming and recording games at 1080p. I found this bench mark and was wondering why i would pay over $150 more for the ryzen? http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-7700K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-1800X/3647vs3916

u don't need to get the 1800X, the 1700 will do just fine too and is the same price as the 7700k. the 1800x is basically an factory overclocked 1700

The thing with ryzen is: it is somewhat a tad slower than the 7700k in gaming (though not dramatically) and most times better in anything other. The only problem with ryzen is that software and windows is not optimized for the ryzen cpus right now, but this will happen and then we need to see how fast ryzen really is. In your use case probably both would do just fine, I probably would get the 1700 because render softwares and streaming will benefit from having more cores and performance of the ryzen chips will only get better.

dont get the 1800x if you are going to get a ryzen chip. get a r7 1700 and overclock it to the 1800x frequencies to get a really well rounded cpu for both gaming and workstation type tasks. the 7700k will still have the upper hand in single core performance so if you are not utilizing multicore you would be better off with the 7700k. that being said you say you want to stream and record games in which case you would probably benefit from the extra cores of a r7 1700.

this.

the rest of it is either gonna be updates, or not really applicable to a streaming or recording setup, since you'd preferably be locking the game to the framerate you're recording either way.

Thank you, what about the 1700x? Is it worth the extra money over the 1700?

they all seem to be able to overclock to somewhere into the 3.8 to 4.0 ghz range with the 3.7 ghz point being where voltage starts to increase quite a bit to get the last couple 100mhz out of the chips. it really isn't worth it seeing as most r7 1700 chips can basically get the same overclock as the r7 1700x.

One shouldn't rely on a single set of benchmarks. Nonetheless, at the moment the i7-7700K is proving to be the overall best gaming cpu.

AMD is rumored to be releasing R5 cpu mid April. You may want to wait to see how those cpu fair in benchmarks. Personally I suspect that the i7-7700K will remain the champ. But it may be that performance of one of the R5 is such that it makes the most economic sense for a game & streaming system.

My last pc i built had a i5-4690k and it did not handle streaming well. So this time im goin to spend the extra $100 or so to be able to stream.

Makes sense. I was just trying to point out that the top-end R5, priced around the i5-7600K, has 6 cores/12 threads so it should handle streaming easily and gaming performance may well be similar to the i5.
