It shouldn't cause any problems, per se… in theory your motherboard should find matching settings for all DIMMs (which will likely be the slowest among the DIMMs installed).

But throwing in a third unmatched DIMM will force it into single-channel mode, which basically halves memory bandwidth. So at the moment it's a matter of whether memory performance or memory capacity is more important to you.

i bought 2 new 8GB ram sticks

and i have an extra 8GB stick that was in there before

is it a good idea to throw the old one with the 2 new fellas ?

the old stick : https://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-12800cl10s-8gbxl#tabs-spec

i use maya ( 3d application ) and photoshop and google chrome is usually running at the same time ... so the more ram the better but i don't wanna cause problems in the system

so could i use those sticks together to have 24GB with no problems ?

I can't say for sure but because their timings and frequencies are different they won't work together nicely.

System

@arbellason55 @UMxMarky94 thanks, i'll wait until i can afford 2 extra similar sticks to the ones i just got then :)

I wouldn't mix them personally... it'd be better to sell that stick and get more of the same as you just bought.
