Freeze When Using Any Program

Fellow Techies,

My pc just started randomly freezing when I run any program. What could cause this? It has not froze yet in safe mode.

 

Thanks in advance. 

Instructions for frustration management:  

1) Sit at desk.   2) Repeatedly slam forehead against desk.

Fans are at 100% so I know that is not an issue. 

 

Even freezes when using windows software built into Windows. What is weird is that I have not installed anything lately.

I apologize, i wasn't clear. I set the fans to run at 100%.

It never froze in safe mode. I couldn't run my virus scanner of coarse. hmmm...

After turning off all startup programs and turning off and checking only lead system services, the system has not froze in normal windows mode.

if you can get in the system configuration utility in safe mode.... under start up deselect most/all programs that don't need to run.

under sevices, check the "hide all microsoft ) stuff and find what's running that you can live without.

try and keep an anti malware program ( malwarebytes )? and you AV running and save and reboot.

below will be done NOT in safe mode.............

if you get to the desktop do scans. You may also want to try while not connected to the net if it will help.

LabRat, hope all is well.

I was able to get rid of AVG (had to use their removal program in order to do so. It would hang up every time I tried to uninstall it. Malwarebytes gave me problems running.). After reinstalling both AVG and Malwarebytes and running scans it found lots of pup and one rootkit. After that, nothing. Only issue I have is on the msconfig- startup tab I have two AVG Framework, and two AVG Internet Security System. I don't know which one is fine and which one isn't. Duplicates were not there before. 

 

I also have one item that was from a program I deleted a couple of days ago. Why would it still be in there?

 

I will see if my problems continue. If not then we know that those pups and rootkit were the issue. Thanks again.

i had to use revo uninstaller a few times....... if you ever use it watch what you are doing. once something is gone, it is gone.

the msconfig box.............. you figure out how to remove old stuff from that let me know.

keep testing. get back to thread.
