Hey guys, a family member needs a good printer that would scan fast and wouldn't be expensive to refill. I have a printer myself that I used years ago for school, but the ink doesn't last very long, also, it won't print in black and white as the other color cartridges are empty :P So, how exactly does a laser printer work? Would it be cheaper to run?

Many thanks, Bruno.

Laser printers are MUCH cheaper to run.  While the toner cartridges are generally more expensive they last for thousands of pages instead of hundreds.  Also they are a dry powder instead of a wet ink that can dry out if it isn't used often enough.  I can't tell you how many times I'd go to use my printer that I haven't used in awhile and the ink cartridges would be completely dried out.

Like above. Laser printers have higher cost for device and cartridges, but you can print much more so price per page is cheaper. They are also quieter and generally same speed with ink printers.

Quick check on local pricings show that color AIO laser printers are around €300-400, while AIO BW's are half price, same with just color lasers. Ofc for €350 you get wifi, nfc etc. But its still pretty steep initial cost compared to ink competition with €100 stating prices (I paid €150 for mine 9 years ago).

Laser printers are as fast as an ink printer? what? My school uses laser printers, and they're much faster than the ink printer I have at home :S

I haven't seen reviews for awhile so that was from memory and 5 years ago. So don't believe everything they say in random forums.
