After something like three weeks without a working rig (motherboard order issues et al.), I've built the system and the loop. However..

The 6800k in there seems to be acting like a bitch. 4.2GHz is a straight 'no' at booting with anything below 1.34v. 1.36v needed for RealBench not to screw up. I'm also having an issue with idling in the BIOS - it sits at 50degC. Not sure if this is because its at BIOS (so fully clocked up, no Speedstep) or if a bad processor. Cooling should be fine (240+140 rads, D5 PWM).

RAM is some LPX (not XMP'd yet) so running 2133MHz (24GB of the stuff, 8x2, 4x2).

Tried repasting, swapping out the insert and jetplate in the block, having fans and pump on near full etc. I'm currently looking at 50degC in BIOS with an ambient of around ~21degC. TIM applications are even.

Unlucky to have a bad bin or bad processor? The 50degC at idle is worrying me.

You may need to increase CPU Input voltage in order to get RealBench stable and to push higher.  Commonly overlooked voltage on x99 when it comes to pushing overclocks.

Have you tried lowering vcore and increasing the load line voltage?

@FoolishlyWiseSince this is a 140w TDP CPU, you shouldn't worry at all for those 50degC at all. All you have to do is buy an aftermarket CPU Cooler and you'll see better OC performance along with lower temps.

My 880k is a 95w TDP CPU and it runs around 40 with ~22degC.

it is custom loop cooled so 50C is quite high

what are your temps when idling in windows?

OCCT Linpack unstable at total stock (no oc). Not sure if this is because Linpack hammering the CPU thus expected or not.

Indeed, I have. Setting it around 0.5v higher than VCore value on each run. No tangible difference here, BIOS was reporting it to be at 1.882v before manually changing.

I have not. Looking through BIOS to find the setting. How would this be set in terms of level?

Windows will idle around 35-40degC (stock, with oc set looking slightly higher than that).

I couldn't say for X99, have a google for load line calibration + overclocking x99

maybe this as a loose guide
