Okay so I have a bit of a weird request. For the longest time I have been wanting to build a computer. I'm fairly new to it but I've learned quite a good amount of info on how to do it myself. I chose to do it myself for the obvious reason of that it's cheaper. Here's the fun part.

I want to build the ultimate $4000 PC. I want to be able to play games at 4k at 60+ FPS with ease. I also want this computer to be amazing for editing, content creating, streaming, etc.

The one thing I want for sure is 2 GTX 1080ti. Why is that? I've just learned that SLI is not bad to have, even if games are starting to shift away from SLI support. Here are my questions.

Could anyone help me with a PC specs list that'll meet my budget and requests? ( I've used PC parts picker and I'm still new to most parts making it hard to know what's best for me.)

With this kind of rig, is a custom water loop preferred?

Should I invest in 2 1080ti's or will 1 do just fine?

Just to note my budget is $4000 because I want this PC to last me for years to come.I apologize again for my amateurish knowledge. However, I'd gladly appreciate if anyone can offer any kind of help!

He said 4000$ not 3000$. There's a lot of room left to spare for some extra juice in the build.

Let me rephrase.
There is a lot of budget left for (if possible) some extra power in the buildsuch as upgrading from the Ryzen 7 1700X to a Ryzen 7 1800X.

Yes I know that in numbers it should be enough but then again add the drivers and overclocking everything it could get too tight up... just because he has the budget for I would still advise this one instead:

Other than that all perfect, the 1800x and 2 1080ti will be a beast combo workstation and gaming platform.

Cheers

The reason it is under budget is because we are all suggesting Ryzen, which is basically half the cost of an intel Core i7 6900K and delivers more performance. But if you really want a build in which you spend all 4000$ that is something we can handle, but it won't make much difference to the builds we are currently suggesting. The Ryzen is efficient and cheap, and packs a punch.
I'd recommend to still wait a while, because there aren't many coolers that support AM4 at the moment, and since you have a high budget you could easily use custom water cooling.

Ahhh I see, even if I upgrade to faster ram or ssd or hard drives? Again I'm still new so I bet my questions are quite annoying.

Also if you want to go fully custom water cooling it will be another 1000$ easily just depends how far you want to go with water cooling.

Let me put it in simpler terms:
You asked for "The Ultimate PC" that had basically no bottlenecks (limits) and could last you many years. We got you the specs for one, but the reason it is under budget is because this is as high as you can go without buying overpriced parts. For example: (This is just to explain) Your CPU is X. Another CPU is available on the market that performs the same as X, but costs double the price. Since there is no difference in performance, the better option would be the cheaper one. This way we saved a lot of money in the builds we are suggesting.

If you upgrade to faster ram, there wouldn't be much of a noticeable difference in performance, unless the upgrade is high, like going from 2400Mhz to 3600Mhz.

If you add more storage to your machine, then the price will rise depending on the storage. The more the storage the more the cost.

PCs are highly customizable, and everything has a cost. The fancier you want your machine to be, the more the cost will be. However, once you reach the maximum performance possible, it is difficult to go even further. At the moment this is the most powerful your PC can be. But if you go for a budget for, say, 70,000$, then you can really have some fun.

It is said that an Italian dies every time Spaghetti is broken.

That's why I break mine twice.

Total: 3400$, now throw in another 800$ of custom water loop ( pricing from ek):

one of those 480 mm rads is 100$ ,

80$ for the fans

250$ for the gpu waterblocks

100$ for cpu waterblock

160$ for a nice combo reservoir-pump

another 50-100$ on fitting and tubing and coolant

Here you are with 4200$ build, that looks fancy and is almost silent even on full load

on the other hand if you don't want it to look fancy you can

cheap out on the case and save 100$

cheap out on the ram and save another 100$ for ram that are not RGB, or even save almost 200$ if you buy 16 GB

If you don't want to go to the custom water loop you can:

buy a nice CPU cooler ( air or closed aio) for 100$

spend 750-800$ per GPU to have better-cooled ones ( like the strix edition and stuff like that)

and you save 500$

500-700 bucks that you can spend on more SSD storage ( you can buy a 2tb SSD and save on the HDD ( spinning hard disk) to have a silent  and faster storage)

so, as you can see, for the same parts and performance you can spend from 3000 to 4500$, you decide if you want a build that looks fancy, or silent or both. That is the good thing about PC: you make your own how you want.

Now, as I run sli in my system and as it is going right now ( see this video of tech of tomorrow), I do not recommend going for sli, you will see proper scaling in 25-30% of games, in the other 70% you have just wasted 700$ to have more noise and higher temperature

This really helped. Thank you so much. Now I have more to think about. SLI isn't something I know much about , just the basics, don't know if it'll make a difference when it comes to creating content or streaming.
