Mass effect Andromeda... I am hyped and you?

PhilBoisvert

It's been a while since I have been this hyped for a game. I know that is stupid... but I just pre-ordered the game and paid 5$ for 1 month of EA access to play 5 days in advance... What are you most hyped about the game? For me its the new combat system and to talk to all my crew mate to learn their story and do their side quest.

I'm not dissing you or the game here so keep that in mind.  What is the appeal of Mass Effect?  I played Mass Effect 2 when it came out for free and I didn't  enjoy it at all. Did I miss something?

I would totally like to see more alien porn hit my screen, LOL:P.

But in all seriousness, I have never played Mass Effect before...

I've never been able to get into the Mass Effect series. I grinded my way through the first game a while back and ended up giving up on the second one.

Similar way with Fallout, yet I love the Elder Scrolls series.

For me its the epicness of the setting. In the 2nd one, the beggening of the game and the suicide mission at the end is probably the most emotion I have felt in a game. I was sooo stressed and on the edge of my seat. I have played all of them 2 times. It is my favorite serie along side the Witcher.

The side quest are also really nice and add a lot to the story. Oh boy the first time I did the suicide mission without all the side quest completed was a murder festival... I was the only one left with 1 or 2 crewmates...

I love me a good game with a great story!  I guess I simply didn't connect?  I mean, story can be subjective considering my favorite is DOOM :D

Maybe you are not the "futuristic" game type of guy? Futuristc and medieval game provide very different experience. I played elder scroll and fallout and loved them. Did you play dragon age? I only played Inquisition and I loved it, also by bioware, the romance and interaction are very developped.

I see haha. All my favorite games are full fledged RPG with complex story, Mass Effect, The Witcher (READ THE BOOKS!!), Elder Scroll, Fallout, Dragon age. I have to have something to keep me hooked or I stop playing. I do have over 1000hr on Rocket league, but at this point its more an addiction than "fun" hahaha (jk).

I played the first Dragon Age and really enjoyed it. Never got round to trying Inquisition. I find that quite lot of very popular games just don't catch me. Things like Bioshock and Dishonoured lost my interest pretty quick when playing them.

That said, I'm not sure it's just futuristic games that don't catch me. One of my favourite game series ever is the Mirror's Edge series, partially for the gameplay but a very big part of why I love them is the setting and art style. It's a real shame the sales just aren't that great as I'd love move of the games. I've pretty much 100% completed ME:Catalyst, only missing the electronic parts collectables.

I'm yet to find a game I've put so much time into as Oblivion though. I loved the factions in that game. In that aspect, Skyrim kind of sucked, especially the Dark Brotherhood story line.

Was Catalyst that good? I did not buy it because of the review. Played the 1st multiple time tho. To me it seemed like they dulled down the parkour a bit.

I think it's excellent. There are some bits that I'm not keen on, like the addition of gadgets instead of more inventive parkour techniques. It still feels very much like a Mirror's Edge game though. I absolutely love the city design and art style, as with the first game but scaled up 5x. One of my biggest gripes with the first game, which was the armed combat was addressed well by just completely removing the ability to use guns. I always felt like the fight sequences in the first game completely killed the momentum.

The game is very repetitive, but I kind of expected that. The story is somewhat predictable, but is left open to a sequel (I really hope they make one, but reviews and sales may not let that happen). Despite that, I still love the game, as the running and city design is what I really bought the game for. Some of the parkour is a bit more simplified, but there's still a good learning curve to get to the point where you can keep up momentum all the time, as well as finding alternate routes.

I have a video running from one side of the city to the other if you want to check it out. Gives a pretty good idea of the city design, running mechanics and size of the map.

I thought I'd not that the premise and setting of both Fallout and Mass Effect both intrigue me, but I get very bored playing the games. One of the only parts of Mass Effect that I enjoyed was reading the descriptions of different planets in different systems. I'd read info on all the planets before going to the one I had to visit.

I'm hyped for ME Andromeda, love the first 3 games so hopefully this one lives up to or beats those. Also enjoy Catalyst, love just running around the city trying to beat the time's I set on the dashes, got in the top 1% in some of them, three starred all of them. The story was a bit meh though......But damn that moment at the top of the crane looking down actually turned my stomach a little....Epic:

Cautiously excited, I suppose. I felt the entirety of ME3 was a mess - not just the ending - and so I'm a bit wary. That being said, my plan is still to buy it on launch week and I'm taking vacation days Thurs/Fri...

For me the first game was truly epic. The first time you had the flashback after finding the first artefact, then the first time you encounter the reaper via their hologram. Those are moments that have lived with me, my most vivid gaming memories. Sure the game was a bit rough but the story and world hooked me.

The start of the second was absolutely amazing and the character development and loyalty missions were spot on, they stripped away some RPG and that disappointed me but the game was still solid and the story progress and side stories such as the genophage was fantastic.

The 3rd was a cover shooter and disappointed me a lot. The end didn't bother me as much as the huge wattering down of all rpg elements.

Hope Andromeda can resurrect some of the RPG elements of the first game, and rediscover the story telling of the first and second games and draw back a bit from the third. As much as I'd love to buy on day one, as this is truly my favourite sci fi series, I'm gonna wait so I can get an idea of the direction they've gone. Nier's timing means I'll have something to tide me over till I see how the game pans out.

Mass Effect is a weird one for me. ME1 was my favorite and actually brought me back to gaming after I'd more or less left the hobby for a few years. ME2 felt like the first act of a larger story that didn't really pay off in my opinion. I found the characters to be boring scifi stereotypes, the cooler characters either come in really late in the game like Legion or you can barely interact with them like that bounty hunter guy. ME3 probably had the best gameplay of the three but it played like literally every other 3rd person shooter that came out around that time and that ending, good god. I've decided that for Andromeda I don't care how much hype there is, I don't care how highly reviewed it is, I'm not buying that game until it goes on sale for less than $30 at some point in the future.

I was until they said there's over 100 planets and 7 to explore. I don't mean to sound like  a spoilt prick, it's just that I heard about over 100 planets first and got hyped and then recently found out they're only being 7 you can actually explore. Still I'm pretty sure those planets will be packed and huge, so I'm gonna wait for reviews and see some videos on these planets first.

I'm interested in it and I plan to play it if the reviews end up in a place that I'm comfortable with, but some of the early coverage has left me a little concerned.

I personally don't consider Mass Effect (or Bioware in general) to be the pinnacle of storytelling most seem to. I enjoyed the series but I expect to groan/cringe/facepalm quite a bit in a Bioware game. I just hope Andromeda is in the same ballpark of cringe that I grew accustomed to in the previous games.

The only footage I've seen of the game is maybe 1 or 2 trailers, which doesn't really show you much. I've been purposely avoiding any gameplay footage and screenshots as I want to go in with ZERO expectations aside from those set by the original ME series, which I enjoyed immensely.

I'm hyped for the game in the sense that it's returning to the Mass Effect universe, but not on any hype that games media has created.

That being said, I have pre-ordered the game which is something I do VERY rarely.

I'm a strong believer in that if you keep yourself shielded from any details for game footage or media hype of new games, and you go in playing them with no expectations, you enjoy the game much more so. When you see what the game is going to be like and listen to other people's opinions of it before you play it for yourself, it can create expectations, assumptions and bias in your own mind before you've even played it. This, I know for me in the past, has taken some of the enjoyment out of certain games that otherwise I think I would have enjoyed, had I gone in with zero assumptions.

I sincerely hope this will be a good game, but I'm not holding my breath. ;)
