Headphones 150€

Tomthedrum

Hi guys

since I am traveling a lot in the near future I need a pair of new headphones.

I have a budget of around 150€ and I should be able to use them only with my phone and not need an extra dac. Additionally I dont want headphones with batteries because I will always forget to charge them.

I was looking at the Audiotechnica m50x.

Any other suggestions?

The Brainwavz HM5 are very confortable and have a more neutral sound than the m50x which tends to have more bass.

Personally I prefer RAZER headsets. I know a lot of people will hate me now but in my opinion they sit really nice on your ears and the RAZER surround software is really nice to use.

RAZER Tiamat 2.2

RAZER man o'war

You should look around for the Sony MDR 1A or AAP...They can be found around 100~120 euro. They have such amazing comfort. And they wrap around the head quite well, so they don't look massive unlike the m50.

They sound great too, with smoother less fatiguing highs (the M50 are infamous for their aggressive highs), forward mids (good for vocals and rock music) and decent bass (it's punchy but nothing special).

This looks like I am bashing the M50, well, maybe I am!

I don't think they're that great for the price. They're not very comfy or portable either.

Most people on these forums would recommend full-size headphones for portable use. Something like the Beyerdynamic DT 770 or M40x (> M50x). I would definitely recommend something lighter. It makes a difference when walking around. For the most part, Sony, Bose and Beats have nailed down the portability and comfort. But for some reason the Sonys are much cheaper around the 100 euro mark. And they sound great too, arguably better than the Bose and Beats. But the sound profile is different, more vocal/rock centric and less V-shaped.

M40x with hm5 pads.    (more neutral)

Sennheiser HD280 Pro ("This headphone has extended, reasonably boosted bass and adequate vocal and treble clarity." -The Audio Board)
Sony MDR-1A               (bassy, with reduced treble)

Bose Soundtrue AE II   (fantastic comfort)

But their headphones are really really good!

Really depends. They do make some crappy stuff but it's generally uncommon.

The Momentum and Urbanite are pretty good but not as good their HD 500 and 600 lineup but at least they are closed back and portable. M50X are often bashed a lot but they are great for what they are I mean they are foldable, lightweight and with removable cable for a very decent price. Ofc you gonna see better sounding headphones for the price but they might be unpractical like the DT770 which are absolutely fantastic but are big and not foldable and have a fixed cable.
