Considering Starting Mining

I'm new to the whole topic of mining, and I think it sounds pretty cool. I'm considering starting to mine, but as I'm new, I have no clue how haha. Is there anyone that could help me with what I need to do? (i.e. best wallet programs, best mining software, joining a pool). Any help would be very much appreciated!

It's a great way to lose money in the form of an increased energy bill and basically no benefits. If you want to put your hardware to use, consider Boinc and F@H, which uses your hardware to contribute to scientific and medical research. Coin mining is pretty much completely dead now days and has been dead for non-specific hardware for a couple of years now. 

 

EDIT: The only way to profit from coin mining now days is either through trading them or by the use of specific coin miners, but you need to make a big investment in order to make any returns. With the scale the big miners are operating at (making mining more difficult as time goes on), you don't stand a chance of making your money back on your own.

Meme coin mining has been dead for awhile. If you get free electricity and don't mind murdering your hardware, you could make some pennies.

 

Honestly, working min wage at McDonald's is more profitable for majority of those considering mining now.

EDIT: The only way to profit from coin mining now days is either through trading them or by the use of specific coin miners, but you need to make a big investment in order to make any returns. With the scale the big miners are operating at (making mining more difficult as time goes on), you don't stand a chance of making your money back on your own.

The amount of Zcash you receive in exchange for the hashing work your GPU does is worth more than the cost of electricity needed to run that GPU.

 

Mining is essentially the distributed computing of processing transactions for the currency. In exchange for lending your compute power, you receive some of the currency.
