Common sense is always the best anti-virus

MBAM is not an AV, I wouldn't let Windows Defender defend itself

few good paid AV:

  • AVIRA - the problem with it is their pricing scheme
  • Kaspersky - currently running it

something to read: https://www.av-comparatives.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/avc_prot_2016b_en.pdf

Kaspersky, Bitdefender, Eset....those are really the only ones actually "premium". Webroot is worth a mention. SUPERAntiSpyware is more useful than Malwarebytes if you're looking for a premium level supplement to your suite.

But paying for any protection that's not a condom is a waste of money unless you're a business that needs enterprise grade protection.

KAV does not block game ports at all

KIS is a firewall - if you don't know what you're buying, you deserve everything that comes your way

Problem is that while paying for other AV, you dont get

- Anti-Exploit

- Anti-Randsom-ware(ONLY "AV" WITH THIS)

- Anti-Malware

- Anti-Spyware(debatable)

- Anti-Rootkit(Debatable)

And thats where i let windows defender take up the slack.

As long as your not clicking ads on porn websites, opening ALL email attachments or downloading movies with a .exe file format, you're probably safe

It's an anti-malware, but I suggest just not using AV at all. Keeps your system at its peak

idk

with the same reasoning, why do you need MBAM then?

I have done tests with KAV on and not installed and I can't seem to find any tangible difference

I hadn't heard about anti-ransom-ware before. Now, I have all these hilarious ideas running through my head, regarding what methods they could possibly be using specifically to fight ransom-ware. My sides!

I said i wouldnt reply on this thread, but whatever.

Malwarebytes detects when mass files are being encrypted and blocks the process from doing so.

Kinda late to this show, but I have used Sophos In an enterprise environment with good results.   I know they have a Home product (could be free can't recall).
