So I've been in college for 2 and 1/2 years. i am so tired of school and really dont see the point anymore im a major in history with a minor in computer science. i really dont want to quit since i have come this far. I think i need to take a semester off. I've started to slack off in school i've gone from A's and B's to C's and D's i now need to retake 1 of my classes that are required and may have to retake a 2 more depending on how my finals go in 3 weeks. My question to everyone is what do you all think of college do you think it is necessary or do you think its a waste of time. i think im better getting a job saving up some money and starting my own business or if thats out of the question finding a job i really enjoy that can support me through life.

This is going to sound blunt, since you majored in history, but I think college Is a complete waste of money for non-academic courses.

My honest suggestion would be to just keep going.

Starting your own business is not all that it's cut out to be. I made the mistake of dropping out and starting my own business. And i'll be regreting this for the coming 3 years.

Well then, by all means, keep going! You're already this far. Decide after taking those 5 classes.

As someone who has seen the job market first-hand across multiple states/demographics, and is going to college relatively late, finish your schooling. Trust me on this. Computer Science is great, it's one of the most future-proof degrees you could possibly get.

when i say 5 i mean that is assuming that i dont have to retake these other 2 classes i know i most likely will need to take one of them so lets say 6 then i would have to fill the rest of the hours with other classes i have no interest in

Taking a semester off might be a good idea. However, as others have said, you should strongly consider finishing your degree, or changing degrees to something more interesting.

Having a Major in History isn't likely to be particularly useful in the overall job market, but at the same time, if you're applying for a job, and it comes down to you and one other person, with the same skills and experience, you having a degree where (s)he doesn't may be the deciding factor that gets you a job.

If you want to get a job in a field where a history degree is important (academic research, teaching, etc) then of course, finishing would be best. But that will be a VERY small job market.
