Problems with Whatsapp Messages

Hi,

So I had some issues recently, in fact for about 3 weeks now, with Whatsapp on my Samsung s6 (newest Android version 6.0.1, that is available). So, i often dont get an on screen message that i got a new notification and it`s content, but rather, a message that claims,, There could be new messages available for you"( roughly translated). Often this claim isn´t true at all and their arent even new messages available. Additionally, when i start Whatsapp, it often doesnt download the new messages i got, until i tap on a specific chat. Has anybody the same problem or some advices ?
