My friend says the Asus RT-AC3100 can provide internet with being attached to a modem even though its a router and they need modems?

 

also does this thing need to be connected to my pc as well as the modem? or will it perform wireless.

you need a modem or anouther internet connection.

 

Your pc needs to be connected to it to use it, it can be wired or wireless

yeah, they need a modem. we have the model below that and we have a modem for it.

Does it have to be connected to the pc or the modem? if the modem is shit quality (telstra gave it to us for nbn) will the router make it better or should i get a new modem first?

the modem from your internet provider should be good enough. the modem should be wired to the router. not the pc.
