Does more cores impact multitasking?

Does multitasking require more than four cores? I am a heavy multitasker (for programming) and I was wondering whether I should get a 7700k or Ryzen 7 1700x.

Definitely get the 1700x. For nearly the same single core performance, you get twice the amount of cores.

Of course multicore and hyperthreading affects all CPU tasks including multitasking.  I would wait for benchmarks on Ryzen CPUs before purchsing any CPU .

Ryzen for multitasking, get a 1800x or a 1700k than overclock it.

I have seen the benchmarks, and the single core performance isn't spectacular. Should I be worried if I buy the Ryzen CPU?
