Sooo we recently just transferred to a condo unit in the stone age.

No wired internet connection, no air conditioning, and no plans to get either within 2017.

My room is pretty small with little to no ventilation. After an hour of my PC being on, the room gets a little hot.

Is there some way I can lessen the heat produced by my build? (see sig for details)

P.S.

  • This isn't about cooling my components. This is more of lessening the heat they actually produce.
  • Because I have no internet connection, I only use it to watch movies, surf the net (using phone mobile data), maybe some file transfers to external HDs here in there.
  • I've already thought about unplugging the 380 and running from iGPU but that's too much of a hassle. ahaha

Any suggestions?

Karamo

how do you  surf the net with no internet connection?

also, you should remove the gfx card.  and underclock.

those are basically your only two options.

Intel 4670K /w TT water 2.0 performer, GTX 1070FE, Gigabyte Z87X-DH3, Corsair HX750, 16GB Mushkin 1333mhz, Fractal R4 Windowed, Varmilo mint TKL, Logitech m310, HP Pavilion 23bw, Logitech 2.1 Speakers

my bad there, haha I surf the net using phone's mobile data.

it's not stable enough for gaming.

Is it possible to just directly plug the monitor on the motherboard ports and maybe disable the gfx card from BIOS or OS?

And by underclock, you mean on the CPU? Is that possible with a locked CPU?

Undervolt as much as you can, that's about all you can do.  Also limit your framerate in games, it'll lower system load and therefore temperatures by a little bit.

Most likely no, but you could always try.

Thanks for this. didn't know you can undervolt a locked CPU..

Oh I don't think you can undervolt a locked CPU.  Forgot about that part.  Other than that you're a little screwed.  I'd maybe use a low-powered laptop instead of the desktop.

If able to spend a little money, you could do something similar to LTT with the whole room water cooling, just with a single PC instead of multiple.

Otherwise, remove un-needed components such as a GPU (unless you need it for something like if you want to game or don't have integrated graphics), and undervolt what you can.
Maybe even disable some CPU cores if able to.

the time it's taken you to post here you could already have taken out the 380.  No you can't really disable the gfx card in the bios.  You can use the onboard instead, but there is still a base amount of power that the gpu uses regardless.

with a locked cpu, afaik only the multiplier is locked.  you should be able to undervolt and possibly turn down the BCLK as well.

disabling CPU cores. interesting idea. is this possible for locked CPUs?

hmm not really. there's only 1 opening on the wall. but it's currenty blocked by some wood. it's only opened if an aircon is to be installed.

unfortunately I don't have funds to buy air conditioning atm.

taking out the GPU is really not an option. what if I decide to play an offline game. etc. etc.

re: GPU base power, would it still cause the GPU to heat up hotter than the iGPU under load?

It might be, I haven't tried to disable CPU cores on anything before, I just know it can be done.

Look around the BIOS to see if it's in there.
