What is Ryzen?

Hey guys,

I am hearing good things about the new Ryzen but I don't really understand what is the big difference or what the Ryzen means for gaming or other things so I hoped that you could help me and explain to me that whole Ryzen thing.

so far benchmarks indicate that ryzen is cheaper than intel counterparts and performs better even though the clock speed is lower - in other words - i think ryzen will dominate

It is a new architecture by AMD competing with the highest end Intel CPUs. The mid range and low end CPUs will come later.

Ryzen is AMD's re-entry into the high end CPU market. It's cheap, offers a lot of cores for the money, and from what we've seen from AMD, has an IPC similar to Broadwell-E. 

With OC, you could maybe even hit 6700k-tier single thread performance, but that is just rumors.

Ryzen is just AMD's name for their new CPUS like AMD Ryzen 1800x

i recommend not reading about Ryzen until March 2nd if you can help it. that's when the NDA ends and the R7 chips come out, meaning benchmarks will be released.

the main thing to know about ryzen is that it is a new line of cpu from amd. they curently like they will give similar performance to their intel counterparts but at a much lower price.
